Reflection Saturday - What Conversation Did I Avoid? Most leadership problems don’t explode overnight. They build quietly. A small frustration that goes unspoken. A performance issue that isn’t addressed. A tension between team members that gets ignored. And week after week, the leader tells themselves the same thing: “Now probably isn’t the right time.” But leadership rarely loses ground in the big moments. It loses ground in the conversations we avoid. Avoidance feels harmless in the moment. In fact, it often feels responsible. We convince ourselves we’re protecting the relationship, keeping the peace, or waiting for better clarity. But what we’re really doing is allowing uncertainty to grow. When a conversation is delayed, a few things tend to happen:
What could have been a five-minute honest conversation slowly becomes a much bigger problem. Strong leaders don’t look for conflict. But they also don’t run from clarity. They understand that courage in small moments prevents crises in larger ones. Sometimes the conversation you avoided this week isn’t about correcting someone else. It might be about setting a boundary. Clarifying expectations. Asking a hard question. Or simply saying what needs to be said with honesty and respect. Avoided conversations rarely protect culture. They slowly weaken it. So here’s a simple reflection for today: What conversation did I avoid this week? And a second, more important question: What would leadership look like if I had it next week? Leadership momentum is rarely built in big speeches or dramatic decisions. It’s built one conversation at a time. Reflection Saturday: What Assumption Did I Make That Needs Re-Examining? One of the most dangerous things a leader can do… is be certain without being curious. This week, take a moment and think about the stories you told yourself. About your team.About a decision.About a situation that didn’t go the way you expected. Because here’s the truth: We don’t lead from reality nearly as often as we think. We lead from interpretation. Someone missed a deadline… so we assume they’re not committed.A...
Energy Is A Leadership Strategy Most leaders spend their time thinking about strategy, metrics, and execution. Very few stop to consider the one thing influencing all three every single day: their energy. Not their time. Not their experience.Their energy. Because whether you realize it or not, your team doesn’t just hear what you say - they feel how you show up. And that feeling shapes how they respond, how they perform, and ultimately, what they produce. You’ve seen this before. Walk into a...
Reflection Saturday - Who Grew Because of Me This Week? It’s easy to end the week looking at a checklist. Projects completed.Meetings attended.Problems solved. But leadership isn’t ultimately measured by what you get done: it’s measured by who you build up. Here’s the hard truth: You can hit every target and still fall short as a leader if no one around you is growing. So pause for a moment and ask yourself: Who is better today because of my leadership this week? Did you: Coach someone...
